Ortha Feamainn - Abundance of Seaweed

The soundscape is based on hydrophonic recordings in west coast inshore waters by Nick Turner, and the prayers are from Carmina Gadelica, a treasure-trove compendium of Scottish Gaelic hymns, incantations and folklore collected by Alexander Carmichael in the late 19th Century.

Seachd - Seven

The multi-time-signature looped track is inspired by the Gaelic rhyme collected by Fr. Allan McDonald on the food chain of various sea creatures, from herring to salmon, seal to whale, to the 'great leviathan' of the seas. The song is 'A Mhuc a bh' Againn a's an Dìg' (The Whale that landed at Digg), learned from the singing of Rev. William Matheson.

Eòin

Birds

Tha eunlaith àraid air Chluaidh, nam measg am Maor-chladaich. Internationally significant numbers of redshank overwinter on the Clyde Estuary.

Teaghlach air Chluaidh

Family and the Clyde

Bha teaghlach Màiri Anna dlùth-cheangailte ri Cluaidh, agus tha mòran eachdraidh ri innse mu chlann a' Bhacastair, aon dhe na teaghlaichean mu dheireadh an Comhghall a bhruidhinneadh dhualchainnt na sgìre. The Baxter Family were one of the last to speak the Cowal dialect of Gaelic, while Mary Ann's own family were closely to the Clyde.

Bradan

Salmon

Comhtharra air slàinte na h-aibhne - am bradan. A cleaner river and the removal of weirs means salmon rising in the Upper Clyde once more.
